Lakewold Gardens is located in Lakewood, Washington, and is a Washington State historic landmark in addition to a National Historic Site. This magnificent 10 acre estate offers landscape architecture by Thomas Church and historic architecture, which is open to public. ANR was commissioned to design a new Asian-inspired garden, the Don and Mary Williams Garden Room. An overgrown and overlooked area was redesigned to show case an Asian-inspired garden design. Japanese maples, mossy boulders, and beautiful rhododendron groves hidden under the overgrown plants were re-discovered and brought into a new light. Now a new pathway meanders through the garden that provides a various point of interests. Such features include stone lanterns, sculptural pines, bamboo grove, a pond, stepping stones and mature Japanese maples. It is truly amazing to see the work of nature, which quickly took this new garden under its wing and help to blend it into the surrounding established gardens.
